Our tour guide began with "Welcome to the end of the world or the beginning of everything". We began our tour with a 15 minute scenic drive to the Central Station for a one hour trip on the Tierra del Fuego Southern Railway Train to the End of the World. This railway uses the original narrow gauge line that was part of the small train for prisoners that ran until 1947. We took the same route as prisoners did on the convict train, a hundred years ago but they didn't have the comforts we had. It was heated for us and we had large windows to view the ancient landscape and to imagine the desperate struggle for life that the convicts that were sent here was experiencing. We followed the Pipo River as the train stopped at Macarena Falls, then we went up into the forest and across plains, into the inaccessible Tierra del Fuego National Park. The End of the World Train has become a legend that was not allowed to die.
