Hello from Punta Arenas, Chile

Beautiful view arriving into Punta Arenas, Chile. Punta Arenas is the southernmost city on Earth, overlooking the Straits of Magellan. Situated by one of the world's historic trade routes, it's prosperity has risen and fallen with that trade. Although the port's importance diminished after the opening of the Panama Canal, the city reached even greater prosperity early in this century as the center of Chile's international wool trade. Due to its geographic location, the climate in this region can be very harsh during the winter season. In the summer which is now it is very cold and windy and we can attest to that. Today the temperature high is 59° and low 46°. When we left the ship it was 49°. Burrrrrrr...
