Sugar Loaf Mountain

The Sugar Loaf mountain, or Pão Acucar, rises as a massive granite cone at the entrance of Guanabara Bay overlooking Río. We arrived at the cable car station and boarded one of the cable cars for the climb up 650 feet to the top of Urca Hill, where shops and restaurants are tucked amongst beautiful shady gardens. The second phase of our trip involved another breathtaking cable car ride to the 1200 feet summit of Sugar Loaf. From high atop the mountain we had a birds eye view of the city and surrounding beaches and it was simply stunning. It seems that the city of Rio is just full of beautiful scenic views and each one is impressive.
