Our tour today was on a Bahian style schooner named Netuno II which pulled up right alongside our ship which we boarded for a leisurely cruise. It was a beautiful day as we cruised along the islands of Ilha Comprida, Praia Vermelha, and Ilha do Mantimento and past some beautiful beaches. There are 139 different islands in this area. The schooner anchored 200 yards from Vermelha Beach and we swam with noodles to the beach. We walked along the sand and came across a black sand patch which was made from volcanic rock. Jim was proud of Pat for getting in the water but at 93 degrees and a hot sun the cool water felt great. Pat found a tiny sea shell to remember the day.
We then sailed to another island without a beach. There were lots of fish in the water. Pat went in the water again and Jim stayed on the schooner and had a tropical drink. The beauty of the scenery was spectacular with white, sandy beaches alternating with the green and blue waters of the ocean. We saw fishing villages and beach resorts, and sub-tropical vegetation. There were 120 of us on board and about half got in the water. It was a very enjoyable 3 hour tour.
