We had a one hour drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Santiago de Compostela. We walked to the center of town where the famous Cathedral is located at Plaza del Obradoiro. There is a legend that the remains of apostle James were brought here in the 9th century and the cathedral was built in his honor with his remains now under the alter. It was a majestic site to see in such a small city. This year because July 25th was on a Sunday makes it a religious year so there were hundreds of pilgrims coming to go in the holy door and touch or hug St James statue at the alter. Directly across the cathedral is Palacio de Rajoy which was built in the 18th century and is now the town hall We walked the cobblestoned streets checking out all the handicrafts, souvenirs and jewelry.
